Mirissa: A Coastal Paradise of Sun and Sea
Mirissa
Mirissa is a seaside town situated on the south coast of Sri Lanka. While the town has some of the country’s best beaches, Mirissa is an excellent place for surfing and snorkelling, but it is most popularly known for being the country’s premier whale watching destination. Discover the treasures of Mirissa, both on land and water during your holiday in Sri Lanka.

Key Attractions

Coconut Tree Hill
Just a 15-minute walk from Mirissa Beach you will find Coconut Tree Hill, a small coconut tree far atop a hillock. The hill has perhaps become the most Instagrammed spot in Mirissa and it’s easy to see why; the whole hill looks over to the gorgeous turquoise ocean and it is covered by tall coconut trees swaying in the sea breeze. At the centre of the peak there is an area of cleared land and this is where you can get that perfect shot of you in a coconut grove with the sparkling Indian Ocean behind you.

Parrot Rock
Parrot Rock is surrounded by numerous small rocks which have now been overrun by coral, making for an incredible snorkelling experience. The ‘season’ lasts from November to April as this is when the water is at its calmest and the monsoon rains have moved further north. In fact, the water is so clear that you could still see underwater by just standing on the shore and peeping down, however, you should definitely go snorkelling as it is like entering a different world.

Secret Beach
Secret Beach Mirissa, is a small hidden beach with a bay area just around the corner of the town’s main beach, Mirissa Beach. Although Secret Beach is no longer much of a secret (and even has its location on google maps!) it should definitely be on your list of places to visit in Mirissa. While the beach has gained more popularity in recent years, it still doesn’t attract as many visitors as the main beach, and so it is still somewhat of a hidden gem.
